A Historical Overview 

1965 March 25 : Foundation stone of the College building is laid by His Grace Mar Mathew Kavukattu, Archbishop of Changanacherry. 

May1 : Rev. Fr Kuriakose Aenekatt takes charge as the first Principal of the College. 

July 8 : His Grace Mar Mathew Kavukattu formally inaugurates and blesses the College. The college starts functioning in a temporary building as a Junior College offering I, II and III Groups of the Pre-Degree Course, with an enrolment of 400 students in five batches. Very Rev. Fr Cyriac Thuruthumalil takes charge as the first Manager. The College is affiliated to the University of Kerala . 

1966 January 3 : The functioning of the college is shifted to the partially completed permanent building.

1968 Nov. 14 : Carmel Hostel for Girls is inaugurated. Rev. Fr Kuriakose Aenekatt returns to St Berchman's College, Changanacherry. 

July 1 : Rev. Fr Nestore C.M.I. takes over as the Principal. 

1969 January : Very Rev. Fr Cyriac Thuruthumalil leaves and Very Rev. Fr John Mullamkuzhy assumes charge as the Manager. 

May 20 : Rev. Fr Nestore resigns from the post of Principal. 

June 23 : Prof. D. Varghese takes charge as the Principal.   

October 9 : His Grace Mar Mathew Kavukatt passes away. 

1970 Aug. 15 : His Grace Mar Antony Padiyara becomes the new Patron of the College. 

1971 Feb. 27 : Mar Antony Padiyara visits the College. 

1973 February : Very Rev. Fr Joseph Meprakarott becomes the new Manager succeeding Very Rev. Fr John Mullamkuzhy. 

1974 March 31 : Prof. D. Varghese retires from service. 

April 1 : Rev. Fr Peter Uralil becomes the new Principal. 

1976 August 3 : The College is upgraded. 

Dr S. Krishnan, Vice Chancellor of Kerala University, presides over the function organised to mark the occasion of starting B.Sc.(Physics) Degree course. 

1977 March 17 : The Diocese of Kanjirapally is formed. 

May 12 : The first Bishop of Kanjirapally, Mar Joseph Powathil, becomes the new Patron. BA (Economics) Degree course is started. 

Oct. 10 : The College starts offering IV Group also in the Pre-Degree course. 

1980 June : Very Rev. Fr Joseph Thyparampil, the Vicar General of the Diocese, takes over as the Manager. 

Oct. 28 : Rev. Fr Peter Uralil retires from service. 

Dec. 4 : Prof KJ Scaria of St. Thomas college Pala, assumes charge as the Principal. BA (History) and B.Com. Degree courses are granted sanction and affiliation. 

1981 : Shift System is introduced for the Pre-Degree Course. Three additional batches -one in I Group and two in II Group- are sanctioned.  B.Sc. (Chemistry) is granted sanction and affiliation. 

Dec. 12 : P.G. course is introduced. MA (Economics) is granted sanction and affiliation. 

1982 June 10 : Very Rev. Fr Stanislaus Njalliyil succeeds Very Rev. Fr Joseph Thyparampil as the Manager. 

Dec. 26 : B.Sc. (Mathematics) is granted sanction and affiliation. 

1983 Oct. 2 : Mahatma Gandhi University is inaugurated at Kottayam. The College gets affiliated to it. 

Oct. 20 : The shift system is done away with. 

1984 Dec. 4 : Prof. K.J. Scaria returns to St Thomas College, Pala and Rev. Fr Jose Puthenkaduppil of the Biology Department becomes the new Principal. 

1985 Jan. 17 : Mar Joseph Powathil is appointed as the Archbishop of Changanachery. 

Jan. 18 : His Excellency Mar Mathew Vattakuzhy, the new Bishop of Kanjirapally, becomes the new Patron. 

Jan. 25 : M.Com. Course is granted sanction and affiliation.   

1988 Feb. 10 : Very Rev. Fr John Thommithazhe takes over as the new Manager from Very Rev. Fr. Stanislaus Njalliyil. 

1989 July 7 : His Grace Mar Joseph Powathil inaugurates the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the College.Mar Mathew Vattakuzhy lays the foundation stone of the proposed auditorium. 

1990 Feb.17-22 : Jubilee celebrations. Dr Sankar Dayal Sharma, the Vice President of India, inaugurates the festival. 

March 31 : Rev. Fr Jose Puthenkaduppil retires. 

April 1 : Prof. P.T. Joseph, Head of the Department of Physics, becomes the new Principal. 

Oct. 20 : Mahatma Gandhi University Syndicate decides to grant permanent affiliation to the College with effect from the academic year 1989-90. 

1992 Augu. 19 : Very Rev. Fr John Thommithazhe is succeeded by Very Rev. Fr Joseph Thyparampil as the Manager. 

1994 Feb. 4 : The college is brought under Section 2 (f) and 12-B of the UGC Act 1956. 

1995 Nov. 14 : M.Sc. (Mathematics) is introduced. 

1996 Oct. 5 : The inauguration of the newly completed auditorium (The Silver Jubilee Hall) by the State Minister of Education, Mr P.J. Joseph, in a function presided over by His Excellency Mar Mathew Vattakuzhy. 

Oct. 24 : V.Rev. Fr Joseph Thyparampil passes away.   

Nov. 22 : V. Rev. Dr Joseph Marutholil becomes the Manager. 

1997 June 19 : The College is recognized by the University as a Research Centre in Commerce. 

1998 March 31 : Prof. P.T. Joseph retires from service 

April 1 : Rev. Fr Cherian Thalakkulam C.M.I., the former Principal of St Aloysius College, Edathua, takes charge as the Principal. 

Nov. 30 : B.Sc. Botany (Vocational) is started. 

1999 Feb. 27 : Very Rev. Dr Joseph Marutholil is succeeded by Very Rev. Prof. Emeritus Dr Xavier Koodapuzha as the Manager. 

1999 August 2 : B.Com (Vocational) is started. 

1999 Sept. 1 : St Dominic's Institute of Management (SIM) - The Extension Wing of St Dominic's College is started. 

Nov. 29 : The NAAC Peer team visits the College and the College obtains accreditation at the 3 star level. 

2000 Jan. 5 : BA English (Vocational) is introduced. 

Jan. 13 : A full fledged computer lab is inaugurated in the College. 

2001 Jan. 19 : His Excellency Mar Mathew Vattakkuzhy retires. 

Feb. 9 : The newly appointed Bishop Mar Mathew Arackal becomes the Patron of the College. 

March 31 : Rev. Fr Cherian Thalakkulam CMI retires from service. 

April 1 : Prof. Augustin Thomas, Head of the Department of Commerce, takes charge as the Principal. 

July : Semester system for Post Graduate Courses is introduced. 

August 4 : M.Sc. Chemistry is granted sanction and affiliation. 

2003 January 1 : The newly constructed Library Block is blessed by His Excellency Mar Mathew Arackal and inaugurated jointly by Mr P.C. Thomas M.P. and Mr Vackachan Mattathil M.P. 

January 29 : The college chapel is blessed by His Excellency Mar Mathew Arackal. 

Feb. 25 : Very Rev. Fr Mathew Aerathedam succeeds Very Rev. Prof. Emeritus Dr Xavier Koodapuzha as the Manager. 

2005 March 31 : Prof. Augustin Thomas retires. 

April 1 : Prof. P.T. Jose, Head of the Department of Chemistry, takes charge as the Principal. 

2006 Feb 20 : Rev. Dr Joseph Nagaroor succeeds Rev. Fr Mathew Aerathedom as theManager. 

2007 Jan. 9-11 : NAAC Peer team visits the college. 

2007 May 31 : Prof. PT. Jose retires. 

2007 June 1 : Dr Ancykutty Joseph, Head of the Dept. of Mathematics, takes charge as the Principal. 

2008 May 27 : The renovated college office is blessed by the Manager.   

2008 July 19 : Blessing of the new gateway.Foundation stone for the new building complex is laid. 

2009 May 27 : Rev. Dr. Joseph Nagaroor's term as Manager ends and Very Rev. Fr. George Alunkal assumes charge as new Manager. 

2010 March 31 : Dr.Ancykutty Joseph retires from service 

2010 June 7 : Dr.Sunnykutty Thomas, Department of Commerce, takes charge as the Principal 

2010 July 2 : The QAC(Quality Assurance Centre) is inaugurated by His Excellency Mar Mathew Arackal.
