RESEARCH AND POSTGRADUATE DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE
The Department of Commerce came in to existence in 1980. It was upgraded as a Postgraduate Department in 1984 and became a Research Centre in 1997. It has won several university ranks and produced 13 Ph.Ds so far. Presently, 30 research scholars are pursuing research under the guidance of 6 research guides. At present we have 13 faculty members, of which, 8 are permanent members.
Dr. Baby M D, Head of the Research and Post Graduate Department of Commerce is the Director of the Research centre. Dr. K. Sreeranganadhan, Director,the School of Management M G University , Dr.Thomas Joseph Thoomkuzhy,faculty member, Centre for Taxation Studies, Trivandrum, Dr. Kurian Joseph and Dr. Sunnykutty Thomas of our college, Dr.P.N Harikumar, Reader, K.G College, Pampady, Dr. J. Nalini , Reader , Baselius College Kottayam are the other Research guides. Altogether there are 30 scholars doing research in the centre and many of them are in the final stage of their work.

SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT
Three major research projects
- Eight minor research projects.
- 13 Ph.D’s from the Research Centre.
- PG Development Assistance of Rs 2,00,000 in the IX plan period from the U.G.C.
- PG Development Assistance of Rs 1 ,73,400 in the X plan period from the U.G.C.
- PG Development Assistance of Rs 5,00,000 in the XI plan period from the U.G.C.
- Well equipped Computer Lab with 36 computers and Internet facilities.
- U.G.C Sponsored National seminar on ‘Value Added Tax (VAT)’ on 7- 8August 2006.
- U.G.C Sponsored National seminar on Indian capital market. Challenges and opportunities on 14-15 Oct 2008.
- PEGASUS- Knowledge enhancement programme cum competitions for the higher secondary students in every year.
- Good academic results with around 90% pass in B.Com. and M.Com.
- Programmes for personality development and career advancement to our UG and PG students.
SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS BY FACULTY
Our faculty consists of 8 permanent members. Of this 7 have Ph.D and 1 has M.Phil. four Ph.D holders have acquired M.Phil too.
The faculty members attended several international and national seminars in the past 5 years.
Dr. M.D. Baby, has presented papers in 3 National/State Seminars.
Dr. K. S Kurian, Dr. Kurian Joseph and Dr. Mendal Jose too have presented papers in various National Seminars.
Three faculty members, Dr. Baby MD, Dr. Kurian Joseph and Dr.Sunnykutty Thomas, are the Research Guides in the Research Centre.
Dr. M.D. Baby is a Research Guide in the Research Centre of the Department and has produced 7 Ph.Ds and seven research scholars are doing research under his guidance. He is also a research guide in the Faculty of Commerce Alagappa University, and Madurai Kamaraj University.
Dr Kurian Joseph also is another Research Guide in the research centre. He is also a Research Guide in the faculty of Management at SASTRA, Deemed University, Tanjavoor, Tamil Nadu. Six research scholars are doing research under his guidance .
Dr. Sunnykutty Thomas is a Research Guide in the research centre. He is also an approved M.Phil guide of Alagappa University, Karaikkudi, Tamil Nadu. One research scholar is doing research under his guidance.
Dr. Cyriac Mathew is an approved M.Phil guide of Madurai Kamaraj University.
Mr Mathew Varghese is the former member, U.G Board of studies, M.G University.
Dr Mendal Jose,one of our faculty is a member in the U.G Board of studies, M.G University
