HISTORY
The St.Dominc’s College Physical Education Department has a fascinating history. St.Dominc’s college is one of the most sports performing colleges in the state. The Department was started in the year 1966 with Prof. T J Kurian as the Head of the Department. He served the department till 1995.
Smt. Marykutty Chacko MA, MPE joined the department in the year 1978 and she was the head of the department from the year 1995 to 2006.
Sri. Thankachan Mathew joined the college in 1995 and left the department in 1998 to join the faculty of Alphonsa College Pala.
Mr. Praveen Thariyan M.P Ed has been worked as guest lecturer from in the department from
November 2005 to October 2008.He joined the department as permanent faculty on 23 october 2008.
ACTIVITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT
1. Giving coaching to students in various games.
2. Yoga classes for interested staff and students.
3. Conduct annual sports meet and inter house tournaments for the students
4. Conducting summer camps for athletics every year
5. Selected players should undergo coaching camp and practice matches before participating in the inter collegiate, university, state level and district level.
6. Providing sports kits, sports goods and sports wears for their practice and tournaments.
7. Awarding sports scholarship to the outstanding sportsmen & women.

DEPARTMENT ADMISSION
The department follows the norms, rules and regulations of the M G University and Government of Kerala regarding sports quota admission to the various courses. More over conduct selection trails among the applicants before the admission.
INTRAMURAL TOURNAMENTS
HOUSE SYSTEM
To impart a healthy competitive spirit among students, to inculcate the habit of working together and sportsman spirit, house system has been introduced in the college. All students wise according to the department belong to one or the other house and will be guided by house captains.
The annual inter house tournaments are held in all major games and certificates, trophies and shields awarded to the winners. An inter house athletic meet is also organized every year and certificates of merits, medals and trophies are awarded accordingly.

Every year parent teacher association gives awards to the best athletes of the college.
FREE HOSTEL FACILITY
We give free hostel facility to outstanding athletes and players.
